Winter Olympics 2018 Sports

Alpine Skiing
Competitors ski down mountain runs in events ranging from
the speed of the downhill to the technicality of negotiating tight slalom turns.

Biathlon
A test of both endurance and accuracy, combining cross-country skiing with target
shooting.

Bobsleigh
Teams of two or four competitors make four runs down an icy track – with the lowest total time winning.

Cross Country Skiing
One of the most gruelling of all endurance sports, skiers traverse the challenging landscape in events of up to 50 kilometres.

Curling
Two teams play each other on ice and sweep stones towards a target, accumulating points over 10 ends. Mixed curling is making its debut.

Figure Skating
Grace and technique combine as competitors perform routines to music in singles,
pairs and ice dance events plus the new team competition.

Freestyle Skiing
Jumps, tricks and heart-pumping racing ranging from moguls, aerials, half pipe and slope style to ski cross.

Ice Hockey
A fast, physical team sport played over three 20-minute periods. As with field hockey, the team scoring most goals wins.

Luge
Racing as singles or pairs, competitors propel themselves down an icy track feet first on
a small sled with only the shoes’ spikes to act as brakes.

Nordic Combined
The medals are decided after cross country skiing, with racers setting off based on their performance in ski jumping.

Short Track Skating
Up to six skaters jostle for position around a tight track in a series of knockout races culminating in the final.

Skeleton
Individuals ride head first on a small sled down an icy run, the lowest total time over four runs winning.

Ski Jumping
Jumpers are awarded points for distance and style on the normal and big hills – where jumps can exceed 140 metres.

Snowboarding
Thrills and spills as big air makes its debut, alongside lope style, half pipe, snowboard cross and parallel giant slalom.

Speed Skating
Pairs of skaters compete against each other and the clock, gracefully lapping the 400 metre track at speeds upwards of 40 MPH.
