injury
- Germany international Jerome
Boateng risks missing this year World
Cup after suffering a thigh injury in
Bayern Munich's 2-1 defeat to Real
Madrid on Wednesday
- The 29-year-old is set to miss the rest

early enough for the global
championship

Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng
might miss this year’s FIFA World Cup in
Russia after suffering a thigh injury in
his side’s 2-1 defeat to Real Madrid in
Wednesday’s Champions League semi
final clash at the Allianz Arena.
The Germany international could only
feature for 34 minutes in the match
before being replaced by Niklas Suele
following his inability to continue the
game due to heavy pains.
Having assessed his situation, the
German FA revealed that the 2014 World
Cup winning defender damaged his
adductor muscle in his left thigh and will
be ready to be sidelined for at least four
and six weeks.
This means that the 29-year-old might
have featured for the Bundesliga
champions – whose chances of
progressing to the final of the UEFA elite
competition are slim.
They will need extra performance to
overturn their 2-1 deficit to the Spanish
League giants in the return leg of their
semifinal clash next week Tuesday.
The German domestic season is ending
with the DFB Pokal final on May 19,
while the Champions League final will be
played the following week.
Boateng will now be faced with the race
to recover well in time for this summer’s
global championship kicking off in June.
The German team will be expected to
name their 35-man preliminary squad in
May 15, while the final 23-man squad list
must be finalised by June 4.
